I'm so bored of poker I don't know what to do.

I have been playing on and off for 10 years. Low-stakes. Casual poker. I normally hit the SnG STT and MTTs. Not a big winner, but I cover my costs.

Lately it seems that while sitting at the poker table I feel like I'm losing the will to live. There's no life in my game. Watching other people play when I'm not involved in the pot is like watching paint dry. If I win, I couldn't really care less. If I lose, feels mundane.

How can I get myself back to loving the game? Try new formats? Ring Games? Or should I just quit while I'm still ahead?

I don't hate poker. Poker is like an old friend. Maybe this is what marriage is like?

Try cash?

If I played donkaments only for 10 years I'd probably feel the same as you.

If you're not a pro, try quitting for a while. When you come back it'll likely feel like gambling again.

Taking a break sounds good.

Otherwise, try a new game, new variant of no limit or maybe get together with some friends for a more casual game. If you know a pro, maybe you can talk some strategy with them and learn a thing or two, that can often reinvigorate your poker mind.

Honestly, try heads up poker, a lot more action and constant adjusting. As they say, "if you're bored in heads up poker, you're probably doing it wrong."*

*Just made that quote up, but it's true, stagnant strategies and lots of preflop folding are the least likely things you should be doing in heads up poker (cash or sng).

Re: I'm so bored of poker I don't know what to do.

Good advice so far. I'm also a recrational player.

I took about 7 months of from poker when I started to hate my life "grinding" MTTs/180s. Was great to get all that extra time to spend on friends/family. When I came back to poker, motivation ran high and I'm spending some time at the cash games tables as we speak on the side of MTTs. Fun to learn something new.

If you're not getting fun of it, then you should better work at a standard job.

I'm a grinder and I usually enjoy the game, but sometimes I don't and when that happen, just with a 1-2 week break I find myself missing it again.

Re: I'm so bored of poker I don't know what to do.

Im by no means a skilled player, but when I play poker for 2 weeks solid from my online account and get burnt out and quit paying attention to what is happening in front of me, I go back to what I use to love to do which was gaming on the PC. GTAV is coming out soon, I intend on picking that up.

And I really need to get my RC car back up and running and head back to the track, been almost a year since I last ran it.

try cash. I did, feel much happier playing it. When you take a beat you can just reload and carry on. Nothing like taking a bad beat then realising your last 4 hours were wasted. Plus cash doesn't tie you down; if your mates want to grab a drink, you can close the tables and go whenever you want

If you feel bored while playing poker you might start losing. My suggestion is either don't play until the trill is back or try some home poker games or live tournaments It's а lot of fun.

I'd suggest trying different variants and see what you like. Cash, mtts, maybe a different game like PLO. Shouldn't be playing unless you are enjoying yourself.

Re: I'm so bored of poker I don't know what to do.

I like to set goals and target upcoming big tournaments (live or online).

Either step your way to a big online tournament via satellites or save up for a big live tourney like WSOP or a tournament series at the local casino...

I find that targetting something in the future is a great way to keep you focused or snap you out of a funk you may be in,.

Also make sure you take breaks and just live some life. Go fishing, playing paintball, build something, volunteer at a homeless shelter, etc. etc.

Cash is a good change. You don't have to commit 10 hrs for one game, also take a week off.
