Bad check...

Twice this past weekend I floated the flop to hit top pair on the turn, checked and was checked behind then was 2 outed on the river... WS this a bad spot to check?
Hand 1. MTT I raised ACE / jack of hearts from button plus 2 the button called
Flop was 10H 9S 3D I bet about half the size ofthe pot and was raised slightly over a min raise. I decided to call with 2 overs tithe board Nd back door straight Nd flush draws. Ace of di on turn, I decided to check and he checked behind , river was a Q I bet about 60% of TE pot and he shoved for
18 more BB I call he shows pkt Qs.

Hand 2 $1/$3 NLH ... I lose player who I was not showing much respect to raised to $18 I called on the button with QS JS flop was 9 3 4 rainbow and he lead out for 20 I sensed weakness and expected him to chet Alost any flop . I elected to call, turn was a J he lead out for $45 I smoothed called again, river was a 7 he bet 100 at this point I started to think I maybe up against Ks and beat not giveing him much credit though I called and he turned over pkt7s... Should have raised turned???

Twice this past weekend I floated the flop to hit top pair on the turn, (smoothed called turn bet on one and checked and it was checked behind on other) then was 2 outed on the river... Was this bad turn play?

I sensed weakness and expected him to C bet Alost any flop . I elected to call, turn was a J he lead out for $45, I smoothed called again, river was a 7 he bet 100 at this point I started to think I maybe beat..he may have Ks or a set of 9s. After thinking for a min and not giveing him much credit I called and he turned over pkt7s... Should have raised turned???

Re: Bad check...

I think you were unlucky in both hands. Betting the turn would not induce a fold in either case if you value bet as there were no big draws on the board and you want a call.

Sets are so tough to spot especially if they hit them on the turn or the river.

When a player insta-shoves seemingly out of nowhere, it is hard to give them credit for a set.

Unless you have better than top pair top kicker, you may want to fold in some of these situations and save some money. Of course hindsight is 20/20. Good luck!
