I'd probably recommend Leggo poker. Them or BFP, depending on what you're looking for.

Probably a stupid question but, how useful are the most popular commerical training sites compared to just free strategy advice on 2p2, free articles/videos (ie. pokerbank.com), youtube, hardcopy/ebooks, etc.

Commercial sites are generally more in depth and done by top players, not the average joe. Books are generally out of date and not as entertaining as watching a video.

Just to add to the above post, my own opinions -

Commercial sites - Less overall content than 2p2 or youtube, but quality average is higher.

2p2 - The best posts are not less quality, but can be hard to differentiate at times between guys that post correct strat and guys that just sound like they post good strat. It is especially tough when posters aren't specific (and some really good players will say "no, fold pre" and it'll be entirely correct but that doesn't help anyone except other good players.

Youtube - Too general to judge, depends on the source. One guy's youtube channel can be filled with very helpful videos, another is just a guy that makes vids that has no idea what he is doing. Another is a mix. Etc. Free content anywhere is the same.

Ebooks/books - Severely weighted towards bad, but even if there are say, 3 dozen very good poker books out there, that's still plenty of potentially good books for you (depends on your game type). The problem with many books is the same with videos. If you ask which videos pre 2007 are good still, you're left with a large amount of bad, and then a much smaller group of good. Books and Publications forum here on 2p2 is a great resource to see which books are full of it and which are potentially good for you.

Please elaborate on how the poker scene has changed since 2007 that has caused so many books to become outdated. I started playing seriously only last year.

The game has gotten much more aggressive and players are getting better.

In what ways have players gotten better besides getting more aggro? And which stakes are you talking about particularly?

The fish are less bad? fish to reg ratio has decreased?
The average player know more about the game?
The high stakes scene has raised the bar even higher?

Also looking for this, have looked around but there seems to be a distinct lack of them. Any I've found are 3+ years old.

What sites am I missing?

Looking for more advanced ones, but any would be good.

I think a lot is as much a progression in teaching as anything.

If I told you a fact in poker 5 years ago, something that can't really change (maybe how to play facing a certain type of 3bet range) it's much easier to expand on that in the future (perhaps how to face all sorts of 3bet ranges). The newer video or book or concept can be superior to the original, even if it is an expansion or extension of that concept. Another way to look at it, it's easier to improve upon something existing in a game as complex as poker, as there are always new things and perspectives and ways to teach that are superior to current methods.

I think a lot of that happens in the teaching world, whether it be books or videos (or forum posts).

Some people take it to the extreme and won't watch anything that isn't from "the last 6 months" or by "top graph players." Those guys are selling themselves short and I think their view on progression is more of a fear based one rather than a realistic one.

As far as how the games have changed, being more aggressive is probably an accurate generalization. It really depends what games you're talking about though, and a lot of this is about how many terrible players there are in the games you play, not how terrible players really are (plenty of guys in 2013 that couldn't win in 2005, even with that 8 year progression advantage). The people that win today seem to be more intelligent players (as far as strategy and theory goes). Much more deliberate, hard working and aware than those of previous years. This could be bias, but I think it is natural, a game with so much money in it for the best is going to attract higher caliber professionals over time.

I don't think any of this is worth worrying about though. Just work hard, stay disciplined and you'll give yourself the best shot at maximizing your talents in poker.

Either I'm doing something wrong or you can't even see how many videos they have unless you're a paid member? Very interested to know how much content they have.

Trouble is there's always a lot of circle-jerk about it because it's Galfonds site.

I signed up to runitonce elite last week to check out their content for cash. It is reasonably limited, but the quality seems good. Any chance to hear Galfond talk is obviously sweet too. I scanned through the MTT section and it looks like it has a lot more to offer than cash, even just the essential videos, although I haven't watched any yet so can't comment on how good the content is.

Hi all.

My friend is starting in poker and wanna know what training site is "the best" for him.
He'll start on the micros on Pokerstars, cash games.

I told him I would sign with DC, but I want more opinions.

Thanks.

Read up four posts for site options, search the thread about the few that look good to find more info.

Most of what you're asking should be in this thread already.

Ok, thanks.

EDIT: after looking and reading about the sites, I guess that Grinderschool is the best for micro/small stakes.
Sorry for the dumb questions.

Planning to relocate after the wsop. Could someone recommend a site with good post-BF video series on small-mid stakes 6max cash and zoom/rush? Must be able to play from a device at the wsop.

I understand this is probably "throw a rock and hit one" but thought I'd ask anyway.
