Re: * Official Training Site Discussion Thread *
Do any sites offer 7 day free trial or anything to test them out, I'm a microstakes player, 5/10 blinds and $5 SnGs, which site would be best to improve my overall ability?
Also no one has mentioned pokerVT, I've seen adds for it around and about.

Re: * Official Training Site Discussion Thread *
Of course these sites rely on affiliate and advertising revenue, if not whats the point of having them up. I also agree that this forum section is a great source of info for training sites. But when you attack the legitamacy of my site (pokertrainingguide) I do have a problem with. Check out the rankings and tell me where I have been biased in the results. I think its a very good representation though I'm always welcome to comments and suggestions.

I will try to get the owner of the site to reply in this thread to follow up on that though.

And speaking of unbiased, isn't Zimba your old friend? Nothing against poker curious, I think its a great site, you just can't trash other sites and pimp his just because he's your buddy.

FWIW: You're allowed to respond to serious allegations and correct misinformation, but you're not allowed to advertise your site here. Make sure you toe that line. If someone's opinion is that your reviews aren't accurate, you're not allowed to chime in arguing that your reviews are accurate in your opinion. This is a no-spam zone, but I'm letting you post so far because you're responding to the allegations of the general form of "your site is crooked" which is fair enough to let you respond to.
I think it's pretty clear that your site has a massive conflict of interest in both grading a site and being an affiliate for it, as evidenced by the fact that you're never saying "this site blows, but hey, sign up with code "GGG4" if you do decide to join".

I agree that TrevRobCR comes across as fairly hypocritical to me when the two sites are pretty much exactly the same thing and have the exact same conflict of interest in play.

DC has some solid videos about split and mixed games. I've only checked out the RAZZ ones, and they weren't bad.

PokerCurious is a poker resource website directed at various poker topics for those "curious". Therefor, the site runs off of affiliate revenue from when someone joins a site through them or uses a referral code. To even get to the training site review section, you have to dig through other links, therefore meaning the value of "purchasing" that top spot will not be worth nearly as much simple due to the fact that many people might not even see it. With PokerTrainingGuide members are on that site for the exact purpose of finding information about the best poker training website. This was the first site like this out there, therefore the value of purchasing that top spot is worth more.
Mostly, I know that companies don't purchase spots on PC. It's honest reviews, and I actually helped do some research on these sites, so I can assure you they are failry accurate.
Anytime a sites URL contains anything with training review or guide, be weary. They're aware people are visiting their site for specific reviews and therefore the value of having the training sites purchase those spots increases drastically. Also, if you notice on those other sites, such as pokertrainingguide.com, you'll notice their reviews don't have weaknesses in them and this is because since they're paid for those spots, they are trying to sell them. PokerCurious offers strengths and weaknesses and holds nothing back.
If you want my honest, unbiased opinion, I'd say PokerCurious is the best way to go as far as honest reviews/comparison compared to the other sites. His reviews seem to be fairly accurate besides one or two that I'd tweak the rankings on. I know he's not paid by companies to pimp out that number 1 spot. I hope this clears things up!

Re: * Official Training Site Discussion Thread *
A few things to point out
1) Click on poker training on poker curious. See that "Sponsored by Cardrunners and Stox Poker" That is not free advertising.
2) Every training site review on pokertrainingguide has a "Weaknesses" section
3) No training site pays for any higher rankings on ptg, not allowed. Those are completely unbiased.
Again not bashing poker curious, as I believe those rankings are legit, as are the ones on my site. I just don't appreciate being grouped together with sites that don't give you accurate information.

Most of those sites have trial offers, just form your own opinion instead of being spoonfed.

Question: How does a site become a "Featured site" on ptg?

I didn't see this sponsored and if so, it may be biased towards Stox/CR.
However, I can guarantee you PTG gets paid by these sites for top rankings. I've seen it first hand.

An example of a weakness section at your site for a sponsored site:
Quote:
|
Perhaps the sites only weakness is their lack variety when it comes to games. The main thrust of the site is the No Limit Holden games. If you only play NLH then this is not even a concern. Though they have recently released some introductory videos for mixed games.
|
An example of the "conclusion" at your site for a sponsored site, which are all emphatic yesses:
Quote:
|
The current outlook is that [site] has nowhere to go but up, and is a must buy if you are serious about improving your tournament game.
|
I think you'd have to agree that you have an incentive to cheerlead for advertisements and affiliate revenue. Your reviews are exactly in line with what they would be if they were doing that. I mean, it's not like sites are going to pay to be listed and be panned, are they?

It's pretty ambiguous which content is advertisement and which content is "unbiased reporting". On the left hand side of the page, there's the advertisement that sites are paying to have there, "featured sites", that uses your wording like "The cream of the crop poker training site with top pros". The sites are paying you to have that there. Across on the right side of the page, there's your original content, with the exact same wording. You were again paid to have certain sites in those positions, even if those are not your official rankings, which are, in my opinion, also suspicious.
Again, most of this isn't up for debate between you and me. Feel free to correct factual assertions that I'm mistaken about, but otherwise, this forum is for user discussion, not sites to advertise and argue that they're valuable.

Training Videos for Online
What is the best website or service for watching training videos of the pros playing online? I personally play 4 nights a week live at a house game usually 5/5 or 5/10NLH and I really really like cardrunners videos I have seen a few of them on youtube..... Which one is the best for cash games would you guys say?
If u have any recommendations or experience with any of these let me know I would apreciate it....
