Advice: Study methods

Hello folks.

I would like to poll people on the best acknowledged method to study theory, hand reviews, videos and the likes.

Say for example, when I'm watching a regular coaching video, I usually pause before the coach asks his student what to do, come up with my own decision with the reasoning behind it, and I then compare it with the coach's analysis.

However, I'm having a little trouble efficiently assimilating videos that contain more theory-talk content, i.e videos where two coaches discuss concepts and exchanges ideas and important points to the poker theory. I'm not sure of what I should do to really make the best of that. Writing it down, rephrasing it with my own words and go with it? I mean that works, but I just feel like I'm not taking it in properly. Maybe exercises to help do that and stuff? I just don't know which ones that would be.

Also, how do you guys deal with ebooks (if you have any)? Ebooks about poker, poker theory, cash games online and all, giving more theory and more examples aswell as decisions that were taken with the reasoning behind them. It's all explained in different chapters, but can't really predict the analysis on the hand examples or whatever. Cliffnotes? Rephrasing once again?

I'm just going to soon start studying a lot more, 1h of play a day and 3hrs of studying or something, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it.

Help, criticism and advice are all welcome.

My 2 cents...
shouldn't you play 3hrs and study for 1hr?
Practice is more important ...I think.
I guess it depends of your level of play, but if you're not already a winning hight stake player then you should practice more than you study...hands hands hands ( quality hands)

That is way way to much studying. You are going to have way to much to think about because you won't be able to practice the things you learn and get them to the point where you won't have to think about them.

Hmm. So what would you suggest? Proportional time between the two?

i.e I study a certain chapter of an e-book, do a x hour session afterwards focusing on the concept the chapter treated.

take notes on a section. Review the notes and concentrate on applying the topic until you have it down pat. Check out the Mental Game of Poker imo. It will help you understand how you learn best.
